There’s been too many ups and downs between two of India’s most aggressive batsmen, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. To put a rest to all the ‘Masala’, the two finally united for a fun interview.
Who was the interviewer you ask?
Well, both of them. It was like two friends sitting together and talking about this and that, a throwback to their fondest cricket moments.
A year ago, their strained relationship attracted ample attention. In May 2023, tensions boiled over during an IPL match when Kohli and Gambhir were involved in a heated altercation.
A video of them going off at each other on the field went viral and fellow cricketers including K.L. Rahul had to physically intervene to keep the players from fighting.
A few months later, Gambhir seemingly lashed out at the crowd after they taunted him with “Kohli-Kohli” chants during an Ind vs Pak clash at the Asia Cup.
Fast forward to a year later, and Kohli and Gambhir are getting along like old friends. This shocking interview is a testament to their transformed relationship.
The once-tense relationship between the two has transformed into a strong bond between coach and player.
The interview started with the two watching highlights of Team India winning moments from the 2011 World Cup Championship. India lifted the World Cup in 2011 after 28 years and Kohli and Gambhir celebrated the win together.
Ahead of the two-Test series between India and Bangladesh starting on Thursday, the BCCI organised a sit-down interview between the two.
The one trait that unites Gambhir and Kohli more than anything—apart from their passion for representing India—is their shared aggression. Ad the two agreed that all their altercations were in good spirits and were caused due to their passion for cricket.
Virat and Gautam both have a long history of confrontations with opponents, making it almost inevitable they’d clash at some point.
The past is now behind them and Gambhir and Kohli now see things differently, especially when it comes to on-field altercations.
The two were seen joking about their little feud. Here’s a snippet of their conversation:
Kohli: “When you are batting and you have a bit of a chat with the opposition, did you ever feel like this might carry on to you going out of the zone and potentially getting out, or it put you in a more motivated state?”
Gambhir: “You have had more altercations than I have (laugh). I think you can answer that question, better than I can.”
