With a coup de baton, the form of powerlifting began on 4 September, Wednesday at the Port de la Chappelle at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
Powerlifting is one of the fastest-growing paralympic sports in terms of participation.
Up to 180 athletes coming from approximately 100 countries will participate in the powerlifting form.
On Thursday, 5 September, Google Doodle celebrated powerlifting with a doodle of a chicken lifting a massive loaf of bread.

On Thursday, 5th September, the game will feature the following categories:
- Women’s up to 50 kg final
- Men’s up to 59 kg final
- Women’s up to 55 kg final
- Men’s up to 65 kg final
Further ahead at the Paris 2024 Powerlifting Paralympic Games, Egypt’s current world champion Rehab Ahmed will be among the anticipated winners of the gold medal in women’s up to 55kg final.
Kazakhstan’s prodigy Tursynay Kabyl aims for gold at the competition. The 20-year-old won gold last year in the women’s up to 45 kg category at the para powerlifting junior World Championship.
Great Britain’s Olivia Broome and Jinping Xiao from China are hopeful medal winners in women’s up to 50kg final.
France’s capital city will also witness a showdown between Ukraine’s Mariana Shevchuk and Egyptian Rehab Ahmed in the women’s up to 55kg final.
In the home ground of powerlifting, Qi Yongkai from China will compete in men’s up to 59 kg final.
