India’s Nishad Kumar brought back silver on 2nd September 2024 in the men’s T 47 high jump category, taking India’s Paris Paralympic Medal Tally up to 7. This is his second silver to date.
High-jumper Kumar is an Indian Paralympic athlete representing India at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
On 2nd September 2024, he recorded his season-best jump of 2.04 meters to finish in second place after America’s Roderick Townsend-Roberts.
PM Modi congratulated the athlete and praised him for his exceptional performance.
Despite bagging a silver, the 24-year-old athlete expressed regret and disappointment at his performance as he was aiming for a higher mark.
Roderick Townsend Roberts made a 2.12-meter high jump and came first while G. Margiev from Georgia finished third with a 2-meter high jump.
Nishad Kumar: Previous Achievements
Other than his recent victory, it was Kumar’s performance three years ago at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics that got him into the limelight.
Competing in the men’s high jump T47 category, he won a silver medal at the Paralympics event, clearing a height of 2.06 meters.
Before that, his big break came in 2019 when he clinched the gold medal in the men’s high jump T47 category at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Tunisia.
His medal-winning jump not only set a new Asian record but also solidified his status as a world-class athlete.

Nishad Kumar was born on 3 October 1999. He comes from the scenic state of Himachal Pradesh.
