Affectionately known as Master Blaster and Little Master, Sachin was born in Mumbai on April 24, 1973. He was barely 11 years old when he first held a bat in his hands.
He is the world’s most phenomenal batsman and the only one in world cricket to score one hundred centuries.
Sachin has spent 24 marvellous years of his life, worshipping cricket like a true devotee.
He retired from cricket in 2013, after playing his 200th test match. The entire country was emotional, watching him play for one last time. It truly felt like the end of an era!
Don Bradman: Pride of Australia
Australian cricketer Don Bradman was born on 27 August 1908.
Nicknamed the Don, Sir Bradman was the greatest batsman of his time and arguably the best cricketer of the 20th century.
National media gave him the title ‘the pride of Australia’. His iconic status made him a celebrity and one of the best-known personalities in the country.
“I mean, business used to stop in the town when Bradman was playing and likely to go in. All the offices closed, the shops closed. Everybody went up to see him play;” said one of Bradman’s opponents, English bowler Bill Bowes in 1983.
He gave a good 20 years of his life to cricket and retired in 1949, at a climactic point in his career, leading an Australian tour to England as captain.
Bardman died on 25 February 2001, leaving behind a wonderful legacy of sportsmanship and commitment to the ‘Art of Cricket’, which is also the title of one of his reminiscences.
