Losing a job that you absolutely love and starting something completely new is not everyone’s cup of tea. People become afraid, sometimes depressed and it is absolutely fine to feel that way. As humans, we all want to choose something as a career that we love doing.
However, life gets hard and we choose something that we never thought of. But sometimes you should trust the process, God has something much greater waiting for you.
This is exactly what happened to the “Bijlee Bijlee” singer. Have you guys made reels on “Bijlee Bijlee?” yesss! We are talking about Hardy Sandhu, the famous Punjabi singer who did exactly the same thing.
And look at him now, one of the most talented and popular singers in the Punjabi music industry and a versatile actor as well.
But how? Brain is not braining here! Well, there’s a saying “ Life happens” and Hardy Sandu took that happening quite sportingly.
Haha, pun intended! Now, the question arises, why would someone leave a good career in the Indian cricket team and choose a completely different genre?
We believe he didn’t choose anything, life chose him. He was just sailing through his ups and downs.
Now, let’s not be overly poetic here and discuss what changed Hardy Sandhu’s cricket career and made him an artist. But before that let’s know what his cricket career looked like.
Playing Hard in U-19
Present 37-year-old singer Hardy Sandhu or Harvinder Singh Sadhu played several U-19 state-level matches in 2005. He was playing with Shikhar Dhawan, Jadeja, and Ishant Sharma at that time. The other two became stars while Harvinder needed to step back.
His cricket career was not more than a heaven for him. He dreamed of becoming a cricketer and at that time he was a renowned fast bowler in the U-19 cricket team.
Once in an interview, he stated that he shared a good bond with Shikhar Dhawan, his then-roommate. You can find his picture with Sourabh Ganguly as well!
Doesn’t it feel magical and sad at the same time? We felt the same while writing this for you guys. He was almost a cricket star, oh my god, almost is the saddest word, isn’t it?
His story reminds us that stardom comes and goes, and people forget you. So, what happened to Hardy’s cricket career in 2007? There’s a tragic story behind it.
2007 Elbow Injury
In 2007, Hardy got injured. It was a severe elbow injury. And unfortunately, it was in his right hand. He tried his best to get treated but nothing seemed to work out at that time. Hardy Sandhu’s cricket career took a pause.
However, he didn’t lose hope and decided to fly to Australia for advanced treatment. He got his student visa, moved there, and visited multiple doctors.
But, it didn’t work. Hardy really “qismat badalta vekheya.” (hehe, being creative with Ami Virk song)
Even though he was ambitious and passionate about cricket he had a plan B. In some of his interviews, Hardy said that when he was heading to Australia, he made up his mind that if the injury remained the same, he would study there and get a job.
What a strong and practical approach to life! Dil khush kar ditaa paaji! But as we already said, life has something greater for you!
His injury was still there. In an interview with Tribune Hardy disclosed that he worked as a Taxi driver to manage his expenses.
Later on, a Sri Lankan physiotherapist helped him to play again. But, his luck was not there, he got injured again after which he made up his mind not to play cricket again.
His Singing Stardom
He came up with his debut album in 2011 after taking vocal training for 18 straight months. Did it perform well? Nope! The debut album “This is Hardy Sandhu” was a flop.
However, this time he didn’t give up and came up with “Soch”, the all-time hit song. He played the character of a specially-abled man. Trust me! His acting was fabulous! Go watch it!
You will never see a man with such vocal and acting abilities! He was indeed a fast bowler even in the music industry. He came and conquered.
After that, he gave multiple hits Backbone, Bijlee Bijlee, Naah, etc. Most of his hits are with B Praak and Jaani. B Praak really recognized the gem when no one could.
His Acting Debut
Yes! He is an actor as well. “83” was his debut movie. The story was based on the 1983 World Cup, where he played Madan Lal, the fast bowler. See! His dream of playing for the World Cup became true in some other way!
After that, he worked in “Yaaran da Katchup” which was pretty average. Currently, he is focusing on his singing career and moving towards Bollywood tracks as well.
Wrapping Up
Hardy Sandhu’s cricket career was short but it was a step in finding his hidden abilities. He still talks about the old days in his interviews which reflects how attached he was to his dream.
It would be amazing if he wrote a song about his feelings and journey in the cricket world, isn’t it?
